SUMMARY : Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor assists with the leadership of the facilities department in the completion of the day-to-day activities involving the maintenance of the building / facility, equipment and machinery, and overall facility appearance.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Assists with the leadership of the Facilities department daily to maximize safety and promote a positive work environment.
• Support the Facility Manager in the daily duties and assignments to lead a productive facilities department.
• Supports team by providing coaching, providing direct feedback to team members, and working with team regarding the implementation of standards and procedures.
• Assists as needed with assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and available personnel.
• Assists with work order system, input of assets, workload assignments, and maintenance of work order system itself.
• Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and in collaboration with John Ball Zoo’s safety division, supports employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
• Assists with identifying and responding to facility problems or issues; Engage directly in facility maintenance projects (as well as supervise others involved), including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other facility needs.
• Assists as needed in developing and maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule.
• Requisitions for materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, or replacement parts.
• Participate in risk management activities and help ensure safety standards and other regulatory standards.
• Oversee assigned in-housework related to construction, assigned projects, and deferred maintenance.
• Oversee as assigned and assist with managing outside vendors or contractors.
• Monitor employees' work levels and review work performance for quality control and validation of completion of work done.
• Works with other departments as necessary to properly support the zoo’s mission.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• High school diploma or GED
• 3 years working in construction, maintenance, or equivalent.
• Previous leadership experience with projects, peers, or others strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT :

Incumbent will work in various environments both inside and outside and may occasionally be exposed to inclement weather;

pollen, mold, dust, dirt and other airborne contaminants; exposure to animal dander, animal wastes and other zoonotic contaminants, and temperature variations.

• Must be able to work in close proximity to exotic and domestic animals.
• May have to work weekends, holidays, and off hours.
• The incumbent must occasionally lift and / or move up to 60 pounds.
• Must have sufficient visual acuity with or without corrective lenses to visually assess the physical condition and monitor the behavior of animals on exhibits and in holding areas;

and inspect exhibit and holding area structures, features, fixtures and equipment for damage or deterioration.

• Must have sufficient auditory acuity with or without audio logical appliances.To hear warning signals from exhibit and holding area safety and security systems.
• To detect sounds associated with malfunctions in mechanical equipment and systems.
• To detect warning signals from maintenance and other vehicles and equipment operating within the Zoo.
• Must be able to descend to and ascend from a kneeling position several times per day in order to inspect, clean and maintain exhibit grounds, holding area flooring and structures, features, fixtures and equipment located at ground / floor level.
• Must be able to wear all required protective clothing and equipment.
• Tuberculosis testing for employees in this classification is required annually.
• May be asked to be a member of the Emergency Firearms Team.
